Paris was brimming with life during the 1930s, and Picasso and Brassai were there to make the most of it. Picasso, thrilling the art world with his works, and Brassai, portraying boulevards and gardens, shops and markets, intellectuals and beggars. The contrasts of Paris parade in front of his camera, from the dark underworld to the radiance of its artistic environment, where he profusely portrayed artists and writer friends, such as Dali, Matisse, Giacometti, Genet and, of course, Picasso, whom he met in 1932 and whose sculptural work he was the first to photograph. This book is about that artistic environment, through which the Parisian intelligentsia is shown in beautiful black-and-white images with the unique signature of the Hungarian photographer. The book includes an excerpt by Henri Miller on Brassai, and a chapter of Brassai's autobiography speaking about his relationship with Picasso. AUTHOR: Brassai, name of the Hungarian photographer Gyula Halasz (1899-1984). He studied painting and sculpture in Budapest before working as a journalist in Berlin and later settling in France, where he developed his photographic career. Among his most notable series was Paris de nuit, in which he photographed scenes of the city's nightlife. He also photographed Parisian life extensively, the atmosphere in the streets by day and night, and the social meeting places, from cabarets to gardens, from the coffee shops frequented by intellectuals to the markets at dawn. Between 1936 and 1963, he worked as a photographer for Harper's Bazaar magazine, and was also a filmmaker and author of numerous articles and nearly twenty books. 120 images.

Justo Gallego, 92 ans, n'a pas de diplôme et n'est ni architecte ni maçon. Cependant, il y a plus de quarante ans, il a décidé de construire une cathédrale sur un terrain agricole pas loin de Madrid en signe de sa dévotion. This book, co-published with the Fundación Canal in Madrid, covers three series by Fernand Léger that attest to his original pictorial language, full of shapes and colours. On the one hand, it includes his works to illustrate the foundational essay of Cubism, signed by Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger. On the other, the lithographs with which he illustrated Rimbaud's book Les Illuminations and, finally, more than fifty plates dedicated to the circus, a world of fun and freedom that fascinated him since he was a child.

Imago Ergo Sum brings together the most important milestones in the career of conceptual artist Joan Fontcuberta (born 1955), through three approaches: the work itself; the book as an object; and the exhibition. Trained in advertising and raised in Franco's Spain, Fontcuberta has been creating postmodern works of photography since the mid-80s, co-opting all forms of media and public communication to breed distrust in the truth of the image. Edited and created under the supervision of Fontcuberta himself, this is a book of his books, as well as a compendium of the work and the semantic and visual games of this master of Spanish photography. This gorgeous volume offers the most complete overview in print of the oeuvre of Niki de Saint Phalle, one of the most influential and popular artists of the postwar period. The French-American artist was educated according to the social codes of upper-class New York society, but boldly rejected the expectations of her family to instead choose a career in art. Moving to Paris in the 1960s, she befriended the Nouveau Réaliste artists Martial Raysse, Daniel Spoerri and Jean Tinguely, creating her famous Shooting Paintings, the Nanas (brightly chromatic biomorphic sculptures of female archetypes), as well as experimental films, decors and costumes for ballet productions and collaborations with Tinguely, Robert Rauschenberg and others. Saint Phalle was adept at using the media to consolidate her public image, and soon became an icon of the 1960s art scene, attaining a broad cultural profile that was furthered by her numerous public art projects, including the Tarot Garden in Tuscany and the Stravinsky Fountain in Paris. This superbly produced publication-which features a die-cut cover through which Saint Phalle peers, aiming her gun-presents her works in all media, along with ephemera and archival photographs documenting her rich career and life.

This hardcover volume presents more than 100 images from a unique part of German-born French photographer Gisèle Freund's (1908-2000) oeuvre: her portraits of Spanish and Latin American personalities, intellectuals, writers and artists. These photographs follow Freund's life journey, from her beginnings in Paris, through her period of exile in Argentina, her stays in Uruguay, Chile and Mexico, to her final stage back in Europe. During her time in these places, Freund took photographs of important personalities such as Julio Cortázar, Pablo Neruda, Nicolás Guillén, Octavio Paz, Alejo Carpentier, Vicente Huidobro, Jorge Luis Borges, Norah Borges, Guillermo de Torre, Eva Perón, Victoria Ocampo, Angélica Ocampo, María Rosa Oliver, Joaquín Torres García, Roberto Matta, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros, among others.
